Miss Tara
Pre-School Class
A Day in Miss Tara's Class!

Morning Meeting: Our class gathers every morning to say hello to our teachers and classmates as well as to go over our schedule for the day and review the calendar. By getting together as a group, we are able to practice attending to a large group activity as well as our social skills.

Discrete Trial Work Time: Discrete trial teaching is a unique method of teaching for students with autism. Each student has a set of programs specifically designed for them. They work on skills such as gross motor imitation; receptive and expressive identification of letters, numbers, shapes, and colors; sorting; matching; pre-writing; counting; sorting; and following directions. Positive reinforcement is used to reward students in every work session.

Lunch: Our students eat lunch in the cafeteria with the older students. They learn how to carry their lunchboxes or purchase their lunch and eat their lunches in the appropriate order with the appropriate utensils.

Specials: Our students attend art, library, music, and physical education. They have a lot of fun playing in gym, playing with instruments, and making art projects.

Afternoon Group: Every afternoon, our class participates in groups designed around fine motor, gross motor, and sensory integration. Some of our favorites include reading stories, creating art projects, and playing with puzzles!
