Miss MaryBeth's Pre-school Class
Our preschool classes run very much like typical pre-school classes that you would find in our neighborhood. We work on developing readiness skills in math and reading, social skills, language and communication skills and motor development. We create many of our activities around a weekly theme, for example, dinosaurs, colors, hibernation, shapes, ect. Sometimes we focus on themes that the children choose themselves! Here is a peek at a portion of a typical day in Room 104.............
Circle time....We start our day by sitting together and greeting our friends. We sing songs and march to music. We learn about the calendar, singing songs about the date, the day, and the month. We also work on our counting skills by counting songs and the days that pass on our way to the 100th day of school.
Center time...We break into groups and rotate through a variety of readiness activities that may include pre math, pre reading, writing, concept development, sensory exploration, sorting, and language games. The children work in groups based on their goals and ability levels.
Snack...This is a great time to work on: our language skills, requesting more of our favorite snacks; develop our counting and 1:1 correspondence skills by setting the table; try a variety of novel foods; and have family time, learning to request and use our magic words.
Specials...We participate in weekly specials of gym, art, and music. We reinforce the skills that we are learning in class and on the playground. We also have fun learning to be part of a large audience by attending school-wide assemblies.
Group time...We learn how to listen and learn in a larger group. We follow directions, complete our cut and glue projects and work on theme based activities. We develop our attending and comprehension skills during story time.
